Matinique

We left Saba Rock at 6 am today headed for Martinique, should arrive Saturday or Sunday.

6/7 3:30 pm arrived at Dominica where we anchored for the night and will continue our sail to Martinique after a good night sleep. Had a great motor sail all the way so we made great time.
6/8 5:30 pm arrived at Marin Yacht Harbor Martinique. Diamond Rock below greeted us
Then when we entered the harbor where there must be 1000 boats both anchored, incredible:

We're having some work done on the boat and the bottom painted so we'll be here a couple of weeks.
6/11 We rented a flat in Martinique since the boat is on hard having the bottom repainted. So we rented a car and are doing some sightseeing.
6/12 We went to Fort De France and saw the city, Saint Louis Cathedral, Savane Park and ate at an outside cafe..Then we went to Anse Caffard Memorial, which is a memorial High on a hill in southwest Martinique are 15 white stone effigies, silently facing Diamond Beach Rock and the Caribbean Sea. They commemorate an 1830 catastrophe when a slave ship failed to properly anchor in Anse Cafard and careened into Martinique's Diamond Rock Mountain, killing many of the passengers and sailors as well as the slaves who were chained to the cargo hold. The chilling statues at this memorial are a popular stop and photo-op for many, and although the monument has suffered some wear and tear, but it was awesome and very moving. See below:
6/16 Today we visited Mt Pele (we'll be back to climb this) and stopped in a lovely little town Saint Pierre for an afternoon beer and snack
6/25 Finally have the bottom repainted and it's in tip top condition. Plus we have all the minor repairs done, Amel has done an awesome job! Meanwhile we've enjoyed the french people, food and wine during our stay here. We're headed south on Thursday or Friday, taking day hops. Our next stop is Saint Lucia for a couple of days, then a couple of days in Bequia and finally Grenada which will be our new home during hurricane season.
