Nevis

Arrived in Nevis on 7/2, got a mooring ball between the Four Seasons Hotel and Charlestown.
Nevis is a small island, population 12,000, only 36 square miles, with a volcanic mountain, Nevis Peak, at its center. It's a lush island with white sand beaches - some mixed with dark volcanic sand - and surrounded by clear 84 degree water teaming with sea life. Nevis Peak stands at 3,750 ft - another island that touches the clouds. Much of the island is covered by rainforest.
Did a tour of the island with Teach (retired schoolteacher). There are lots of greenback monkeys in Nevis, and we saw them scurrying across the roads, and up trees. So many monkeys the government is trying to get people to eat them to decrease the population.
First stop was the Bath Hotel. This is supposedly the oldest hotel in the Caribbean (1778). Europeans used to come here for the Hot water baths which supposedly had healing powers. They would sail 3 months to get here and spend 2 weeks (15 min a day in the hot baths), then sail back to Europe (another 3 months) healed. The water is 108 degrees, Captain Bozo loved it.

We then went to 4 plantations that have been remodeled and made into hotels. First was Montpelier which is where Horatio Nelson and his wife Fanny Nisbet were married in 1787. It is also where Princess Di spent ten days vacationing, can't you imagine Princess Di laying beside this pool.....

Next plantation was Golden Rock which was bought by artists from New York. Their aims are artist rather than commercial and the emphasis has been on enhancing the original and new architecture so the whole becomes a work of art. The new dining area with its water gardens and distant view is just lovely and perfectly compliments the original structure. Some of the most beautiful stone building and gardens in Nevis.

Nisbet Plantation  was once the home of Fanny Nisbet whom married Hortio Nelson

Hermitage Plantation believed to have the oldest existing wooden house in the Caribbean. Here is the old water filter  on the plantation.
