Our next stop was Jewell Island which guards the sea approaches to Casco Bay and it has forts to prove it. The remnants of an old military installation are scattered thoughout the island and the towers at the southern end offer an excellent view of Casco Bay.
A beautiful island and bay but not a great anchorage for holding an anchor. We had a very early night the second night when our anchor didn't hold due to 25 knot winds coming from the southwest.
